Infragistics controls and SharePoint
(Indexed 2005-07-25):
I spent some time today protoyping the use of Infragistics controls from within SharePoint. Infragistics has some pretty cool controls and we are looking at using them on a project. The only snaffu that I ran into today was that the infragistic controls have a hard coded path to the common components. So, you have to create a seperate virtual directory under SharePoint and exclude this path.[Image]
Site Definition KickStart
(Indexed 2005-07-24):
A while back we put together a “kick start” project for site definitions. You may have read about this from The intention of this from fitz. The goal behind the kick start was to provide a repeatable process for creating site definitions and to incorporate some best practices as well (like testing your site definition). Thanks to everyone that has given this a try and please sen me your feedback. If you want to get the kickstart you can dowload it here.Additionally, the kick start...(truncated)...
Issue with SharePoint Portal Search
(Indexed 2005-03-29):
I ran into an interesting issue today that didn't seem to make sense. We wanted to add zip files to document libraries and search on the meta-data, without having installed an IFilter for zip files. By default SPS doesn't have zip file extensions as included files in the search configuration, which is fine. However, the implications of this seem a little counter intuitive. I would expect that the meta-data would still be crawled and search results would show a hit for the document and that t...(truncated)...

Issues with removing the AuthenticationButton from SharePoint sites
(Indexed 2005-03-09):
I better a few frustrating hours this week tracking down a bug in the Young Life solution that we deployed a while back. It seems that users were reporting intermittent errors with the site remembering that they had authenticated and was treating them as anonymous users. Some background on this, if you have looked at any of the sites that I posted a while back it should be obvious that we made some rather dramatic changes to our site definitions. One of these changes seemed pretty benign at ...(truncated)...
Site Definitions and FrontPage. Is there a right answer?
(Indexed 2005-02-26):
Differences between Site Definitions and Templates are still relatively unknown for a lot of SPS owners. I’ve been to several clients over the past few months that get pretty frustrated when I explain the difference between the two customization options. Site Definitions have the benefit of allowing you to make changes across all sites created using that definition. FrontPage allows users a way to modify their site and it is a much friendlier experience for non-developers, but doing so ...(truncated)...
Can't delete a user from SharePoint error
(Indexed 2005-02-25):
We've run into a problem with SharePoint not allowing us to delete users that have been deleted from AD. The following error message is displayed: “Could not find user with corresponding SID in the domain. Check the spelling of the account name and try again.” uh, ok... I'm trying to figure out what a reasonable work around is put in the mean time using Security Groups and/or deleting user from SharePoint are probably good things to consider.[Image]
